The story behind it
Why I designed it
After Elma, I kept getting the same question: was there a version for warmer months, when a full harness felt like a bit much on Alba? I loved how Elma fit and worked, but on hot summer walks, I could tell she'd be more comfortable in something lighter.
That's where Numa came from – taking everything that worked about Elma and paring it back, so Alba (and every dog like her) could have the same comfort and control, without the extra weight on warmer days.
What it took to get it right
Making Numa lighter without making it weaker took more work than expected. Early versions either used too little fabric and lost their shape, or ended up not much lighter than Elma at all. We tested different fabric weights, adjusted the padding placement, and reworked the cut around the chest and back to keep the fit secure without the extra bulk.
The breakthrough came when we found the right balance – thin and breathable, but still structured enough to hold its shape and protect the dog's back and neck properly. That's when Numa started to feel like a true lighter version of Elma, not just a stripped-down one.

My story
Hi, I’m Noa – designer and founder of Staey. I live in Denmark with my dog Alba, and I started Staey because I was tired of choosing between functionality and aesthetics.
Every Staey design starts with real moments from my life with my own Alba. I sketch the first ideas at my kitchen table, and my team and I test, tweak and adjust until it works – for your dog and for you. Because practical can (and should) look beautiful.
